Visit to The Walpole Old Chapel & Halesworth and District Museum

£5.00

The tour begins at Walpole Old Chapel at 2pm on 20 August 2026.

Although it appears to be a 16th-century Suffolk farmhouse, the building was converted into a non-conformist meeting house in the mid-17th century during a period of religious repression. It has been part of the village for over 400 years and remained a place of worship for nearly 300 years. Following its closure in 1970, it was acquired by the Historic Chapels Trust in 1994. Miriam Stead, Trustee of the Friends of Walpole Old Chapel, will speak about its history and ongoing conservation.

The tour then moves to Halesworth & District Museum, housed in a Victorian railway station. Its collections cover more than 10,000 years of local history and archaeology, from the earliest settlers of the Blyth Valley to Halesworth’s Victorian industries. The museum will be open exclusively for our group.

Numbers are limited to 20. Please see venue links for addresses and parking information.
